EBTKS Challenge - Wrapping Paper (take two)

Here's another card for the current Everything But the Kitchen Sink challenge - use wrapping paper on your card.

I bought this fun wrapping paper last year at Hallmark - I love that it is double-sided!! One side is polka dot and the other is a fabulous zebra print!! Plus the colors are just fabulous (in my book!!) - brown, blue, teal, olive, white....ahhh!!

I'm Home From the Moon

A few days ago I asked, "What's a good day for you?"

well....

What's a not-so-good day for you?

For me:
- Having a sinus headache...ugh - allergies!!
- Having my tv that stopped working last week, returned to working after I bought a new one, fail to work again now that I returned the new tv to Best Buy (Murphy's Law!!)
- Seeing my neighbor in spandex (<-sorry I know this isn't so nice, but I can't take it anymore....I want a law banning it unless it's an undergarment!) Actually I didn't have that bad of a day. I try to laugh these little things off because I know I'm so blessed. Yet we all have 'those' kind of days which led me to my 2nd card for the Moxie Fab Household challenge.

I just love these appliances!!! And how 'bout this color combo - wahoo - I'm lovin' it!! I thought this would be a perfect card for someone who needs a little cheering up. I, however, might send it to my mother who has an infatuation with vacuums - she has more than any one person should....darn infomercials!!

Phew!!! I was exhausted by Friday afternoon - I think I'm getting old :) Yesterday, I spent the morning at a Fantasy Football draft...which I wouldn't mind as much except it cut into my time of my monthly stamping get-together. I was hoping to get so much accomplished, but arriving around 4pm did not help!

I did get started on some tags for a swap. I have two more swaps that I signed up for and then I'm done (as you all heard why last week). The first swap is with tags. I'm making Christmas, Halloween, Birthday for adults and for kids.

I got this set from Hero Arts a few years ago for my Christmas cards, and I still love it...the whismical tree is one of my favorites and looks great in so many color combos! Plus I got to add polka dots!!!

Secret Chef #2 - the Neverending Card

The second card that I sent to Diane was this Neverending Card using this fun Hero Arts set & the gorgeous paper from the Basic Grey Lemonade line. A stampin' pal of mine made one as a gift a few months ago - as soon as I saw it I knew I had to make one too!

Today's card is for two challenges - the Featured Stamper challenge at SCS and the latest challenge for my blog group. Today's featured stamper is Sandra MacLean (B-gin-r on SCS)- I've been following her blog for some time now, and she has some fantastic work!! My blog group (please check out their blogs - the links can be found on the left side of the page) holds challenges as well. Our latest challenge is hosted by Amy and requires you to use a 3-color combo that you normally don't use.


So....I CASE'd this card of Sandra's. I loved the simple layout and the pierced sponged layer behind the main image.




Here's what I changed:

- Brads instead of dew drops

For the Ocean's 11 blog group challenge, I used Certainly Celery, Ruby Red, and a blue similar to Tempting Turquoise (with my brads & Copic color). I typically don't pair these colors together - the DCWV paper (Spring matstack) really helped!! Not sure if I'd pair all three together again, but I definitely would pair Certainly Celery and Ruby Red - love the look!!

Also, in case you're wondering (and even if you're not :) )...I printed the sentiment on the dp. I've been wanting to try this for awhile, especially with some digi images. All I did was tape the dp onto regular printer paper and then send it through the printer. It worked like a charm!! I'll definitely be trying this with some of my digital images soon!!

Today's Ways To Use It challenge had us thinking outside of the box literally by using a piece of corrugated cardboard in your creation. So I pulled apart the lid to Coco's catnip scratcher - the scratcher is still intact, so she'll still have something to kinda keep her occupied while I'm stamping :)





I was inspired by a card by Sally Traidman on the Hero Arts website. I used my flower punch (EK Success Whale of a Punch) to cut out the corrugated cardboard. The houndstooth background was stamped onto white cardstock. And to further the 'green' theme of the card, I used a sticker that I received in the mail advertisement.

School's Out For Summer!!!

Yesterday concluded 2009 for me - I attended the graduation ceremonies for the class of 2009 and then a get-together for the faculty who survived the year! I wished all of my seniors the best with the card you'll see below, and I'm about to start working on a money holder for a graduation party I'm going to later today. Along with a personal note, the card's inside reads: Hoot-n-Holler. You're a Scholar! I've always loved that saying after seeing Kim Hughes' U R a Hoot set and couldn't wait to pull this card together after getting my Hero Arts Big Owl set.

Happy Mother's Day

Weeks ago, I fell in love with the flower pot cards Elizabeth created - check them out here. Instantly I knew that I wanted to create one for my mom for mothers day. You can find the tutorial on Stephanie's blog.



I love the colors! I found the polka dot DP that Real Red and Groovy Guava went perfectly.I used the Georges Basic Shapes Cricut cartridge to cut out the posies and I hand cut the leaves from some green paper I picked up at Archivers. Chocolate Chip was used for the pot, which I stamped with my Hero Arts raindrop background stamp. The Stampendous sentiment was colored with (my new ) Copics!

I still can't get over how quick and easy the card was to make. I think it's so versatile...get well, new baby, congratulations, thinking of you, blah, blah, blah...so I know I'll be making more!

Happy Birthday

Tomorrow is my dad's 60th birthday. Holy crap!! I can't believe my dad is 60 - I must be getting old too!! ;>)

He came over for dinner today, and I made some of his favorites - meatloaf, mashed potatoes, green beans, and gob cake (<-- yummy!!). We had a nice time.

Here's the card that I made for him. I just love this owl stamp. He's so versatile. I added a teeny birthday hat to him from my Stampendous Changito the Monkey clear set. I love how the size makes the owl look even bigger!!

Defenses Win Championships

So, we're about 8 minutes away from our 6-pack (6th Super Bowl championship for you non-Pittsburghers), and I figured I'd post my entry for this week's Hero Arts' blog challenge. This week's challenge was to use hearts on a non-Valentine project.



I was playing around with this heart image from the Happy Everything set. I wanted to create a peacock, but I wasn't happy with the way it look. After twisting and turning the hearts into different arrangements, I came up with this Christmas tree. I may still play around with the peacock idea, but I gotta get back to the game! Go Steelers!!

Knock Knock...

Okay, this card may be my favorite of all time. The only downfall was the amount of time it took to put together. I got home from Panera (yummy!!), and I wanted to create an entry for the Hero Arts Valentine Challenge. There's some amazing prizes up for grabs, and I really want to be in the running.

I knew that I wanted to use my 'Whoo Loves You' set, particularly the owls and the branches or trees. After a little brainstorming, I came up with making a Knock Knock card. I found a Valentine knock knock joke on the web and followed that with thinking of a layout. At first, I thought I'd create a tall card with the punchline on the inside of the card. Then, I changed my mind and went with a tri-fold card. Boy, what a good decision. I'm just so happy with my creation. I really tried to handwrite the joke, but I'm way too critical of my handwriting. So, I resorted to printing clear mailing labels to attach to the card.

I used a 12"x12" piece of cardstock cut in half then scored at 4" and 8". The card contains lots of dimension and glitter - perfect for Valentines Day!

Now, I'm off to clean up the mess I made. Ugh!!

Hero Arts - WHOO LOVES YOU?

I bought the cutest Valentines' set last night, and it's been a great addition for the VSN going on today at SCS. Check out the two projects I've already used the set on:

Love Me Tender Challenge:

This challenge required the use of something soft in your design. My little squirrel is flocked, so he's definitely soft. I added stickles to the tree and love how it turned out.

Hope Chest challenge:

For this challenge, we had to create a container of some sort to hold special items or to give to someone special. I purchased this cylinder container at Michael's on clearance right after Christmas. It had 'Merry Christmas' all over it until I covered it with DP and ribbon. I'll be filling it with Buckeye Balls (chocolate covered peanut butter balls) for a Valentine's Day treat.

Let the Challenge Begin

I love VSN at SCS. I've always worked best on a deadline. Otherwise, I overthink things and get overwhelmed with my thoughts. The 45 minute deadline forces me to make a committment and get the job done.


So, tonight's warm up challenged me to make a scrapling ( a card around 1.25" wide made from scraps). I've never made one before, but I know I'll be making more in future. How fun and simple! I used my Hero Arts 'Happy Everything' stamp of the hugging chick and some fun ribbon I found on clearance from Michaels.




Can't wait for tomorrow's 12 challenges!!
