The End Is Near...

Here's my last post for the month of July and with it I realize that summer is almost over. I go back to school in about 3 weeks and those will go by soooo quickly. It seems that the longer I teach, the shorter the summer's get :)....don't even ask me if I started on my school to-do list yet (YIKES!!!)

I came across the Bee Crafty blog today and found some adorable images!! Luckily it was the last day to enter their current contest, so I made this card (plus it works for my blogger group's challenge....see below!).

The challenge was to create a summer fun card that included a digital image somewhere on the design. I used this image from the Sea Creatures set from MyGrafico - what says summer fun more than the beach and searching for shells. I never had any luck on the beach finding shells, but I always bought starfish at a store on the boardwalk.

My card also works for the most recent Ocean's 11 Challenge. Ocean's 11 is my blog group and is filled with fabulous gals - please check out their blogs listed down the right side of mine. Amy challenged us to use a 3 color combo that you don't normally use. While I use blue and orange a fair amount, I'd never think of adding the blue-green color (sorry I don't have the exact name...I picked this up last summer from Archivers - my 5 free sheets). My dp inspired me, and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out!

Today's card is for two challenges - the Featured Stamper challenge at SCS and the latest challenge for my blog group. Today's featured stamper is Sandra MacLean (B-gin-r on SCS)- I've been following her blog for some time now, and she has some fantastic work!! My blog group (please check out their blogs - the links can be found on the left side of the page) holds challenges as well. Our latest challenge is hosted by Amy and requires you to use a 3-color combo that you normally don't use.


So....I CASE'd this card of Sandra's. I loved the simple layout and the pierced sponged layer behind the main image.




Here's what I changed:
- Colors
- Designer paper
- Image
- Sentiment
- Scale of card
- Brads instead of dew drops

For the Ocean's 11 blog group challenge, I used Certainly Celery, Ruby Red, and a blue similar to Tempting Turquoise (with my brads & Copic color). I typically don't pair these colors together - the DCWV paper (Spring matstack) really helped!! Not sure if I'd pair all three together again, but I definitely would pair Certainly Celery and Ruby Red - love the look!!

Also, in case you're wondering (and even if you're not :) )...I printed the sentiment on the dp. I've been wanting to try this for awhile, especially with some digi images. All I did was tape the dp onto regular printer paper and then send it through the printer. It worked like a charm!! I'll definitely be trying this with some of my digital images soon!!

Ocean's 11 Challenge - The Sky's the Limit

Each week a member of my blogger group hosts a challenge. This week's challenge is being hosted by Elisabeth (aka Lilsisbet at SCS). Be sure to stop by her blog (you can see some photos of her birthday trip to NYC where she had breakfast at Tiffany's).

Elizabeth challenge us to create a product that contained a sky in it. This was just perfect timing! My SU order arrived today with my Trendy Trees set. I've been so anxious for it to arrive! It will take a bit of playing around with to get the two-step stamping lined up the way I'd like it, but I'm certain that this set will become one of my favorites!

Ocean's 11 Challenge - Spring in 3D

My blogger group has decided to run challenges, and this week's challenge is hosted by Chirleen. The theme was to create Spring related card with 3D elements. Here's what I came up with:



I've had this set from Stampendous since last year, and I think the bunnies look just like the marshmallow peep bunnies. I tried to color them in a similar manner. But I don't like peeps, so I had a hard time picturing the different colors. I think I needed a purple one.

I popped out the basket by stamping two copies, attaching one directly to the card base, adding some 'Easter grass' (shredded paper), and placing the second basket (no handle) on top with dimensionals. Then I went back and placed all the bunnies in the basket and finished it off with a bow.
