What Was I Thinking?

After looking at today's sketch challenge at SCS, I knew I needed smaller images. I pulled out three stamp sets that I picked up a few weeks ago - you know the dollar clear stamps that you have to buy because there only a buck! I bought the set that I used thinking that it was a set of houses...ummm...what was I thinking? It's a set of buildings. They're cute, but I wanted a set of houses. Hey, there were ONLY a dollar :)



Now I do know what I was thinking when I bought the recently released Polka Dot Basics II from PTI. Isn't it great? I also picked up the Everyday Button Bits set and can't wait to use it!!

I've been super busy over the past few days with an activity day that I hold for my students every summer and I spoke at a local university about gifted education. Exhaustion has set in and coupled with the fact that my house needs cleaned (not picked up, but scrub-a-dub-dub cleaned), I haven't been motivated to create anything new UNTIL I found out this morning that this card of mine was chosen as one of the winner's of the Moxie Fab Green Challenge! YAHOO!!! I'm over the moon and definitely motivated to create :)

The Circus Has Come To Town!!

So, in my effort to get in shape, I've signed up for classes at the local YMCA. I've been going to the water aerobics which has been great in so many ways (it's easy on my ankle that I sprained in the spring, I don't sweat, I get a really good core workout in the deep end, I don't sweat, and I don't sweat). The instructor has the most fit body, and she also teaches Pilates. So, in my infinite wisdom I thought, "You can do Pilates....you're still young and you can take it easy until you catch on." What the heck was I thinking!!!!! I went on Monday - I knew I was sore, but I still went to water aerobics on Tuesday....now I can barely move. After this post I'm going to heat up my ginger therapy heat pack (from Origins) and pray to the Pilates gods for relief!!

This card was created for today's sketch challenge at SCS. I used one of the newest stamp sets from MyGrafico - Circus by Zenware. I thought it was appropriate to use because today's Pilates class (that I skipped) was using the stability balls!! Jen (Zenware) has created two new sets (Circus and Slumber Party/Sleepover), and they are absolutely ADORABLE!! I'll have some more cards with these images soon.

I combined the images of the clown girl and seal to create this scene. The sentiment, You're a Class Act!, was printed using Arnold 2.1 font. The image was colored with my Copics (see color list below) and I added some glitter to the girl's skirt with my Gelly Roll Stardust pen in green.

Sketch Challenge part deux

Here's my second take on today's SCS sketch challenge. I've wanted to make these tissue flowers for some time and boy were they easy!! I definitely will throw more together to top gift boxes!!



To make the flowers, I used two sizes of flower punches (Whale of a Punch & Medium by EK Success) and tissue paper. I folded the tissue paper a couple of times and then punched out some flowers (that way I got a bunch cut with one punch). After that I crumpled the flowers a bit and distressed them with ink (Rose Red). I used a little glue from my Zig 2-way glue pen and attached 4 large flowers atop each other, making sure to stagger the petals with each overlapping flower. Then, I added 2 medium flowers (staggered again). Finally, I glued on the button & ribbon and scrunched the petals a bit. You could stitch the buttons on, but I was being lazy :)

Sketchy Farmyard

Here's my card for today's sketch challenge over at SCS. the sketch reminded me of the Brady Bunch's opening sequence...so here are the members of the Brady's farm:

The card didn't turn out like I had hoped. I think it needs something else - I tried ribbon, hemp, buttons; but I didn't care for any of it. I did pop up the head of the animals (thanks to Mandy & Shayla for the idea).

I think I'll give the sketch another try after I get some lunch. I'm thinking flowers :)

Surf's Up

I was so excited Sunday afternoon when I received a comment on my Life's A Beach card over at PCP from Susanna Boyd telling me that they'd be featuring it in this week's (6/29) newsletter! Wahoo-ey!!!

Nothing like getting recognized to make you want to give it another whirl, so here's my take on this week's sketch:

I've had this little surfer dude for the longest time along with his hula girl buddy. I think I've only inked him up once (and never inked up hula girl)! A bit of inspiration from Gina, from my SCS blogger group, has me wanting to use the goodies that I have in my craft room. Boy, I'm sure glad I am.

I love the way this little surfer guy turned out.


I paper pieced his trucks and popped him up with dimensionals with two circles (cut with my Nestabilities) behind him. I hand cut three surfboards from DP (DCWV Fun in the Sun matstack) to mount on the three vertical panels. I just love the combo of these three papers!!




I used rub-on letters (Creating Keepsakes) to add the sentiment to the card.

Life's A Beach

Boy was it HOT yesterday!!! It still a bit humid, so it wasn't hard to find inspiration for this week's sketch challenge at PCP. My beachy images are from the Sea Creatures set by MyGrafico. I colored them all in with my Copics, cut them out, and popped them up with dimensionals.



You can see where I added some sandpaper here in the close up.



The sentiment was printed from MS Word using Word Art and Arnold font. I first created a circle then inserted the text and changed the shape.

Sketch Challenge

My mom's neighbors came to see my house today. It's a been a little over a year since I've moved in, and they wanted to come out to see the place (and my flowers - I'll have to take pictures of my containers on my front stoop - they're going crazy). We had a nice early afternoon, talking a lot about recipes...I really need to make a recipe book. After a nice nap, I started working on a project for next week's MyGrafico challenge and today's sketch challenge over at SCS.



Aren't these piggies the sweetest? They're from the Rachelle Anne Miller collection from Stampavie, and one of the goodies my mom got for me for my bday. I think I'll send her this card to thank her for the goodies.

I just love the paper (from DCWV Spring Matstack) - I found it on clearance at JoAnn's at the beginning of the month. There are so many great coordinating sheets.

SC216 - Bee Lucky

I haven't worked on any challenges for awhile, so I figured I'd give this week's SCS sketch challenge a try. My card is based on the following sketch by Roxie, and it definitely presented a challenge for me. I find it difficult to incorporate circles into the layout unless they are the focus.




I will say that I'm happy with the results. It's a simple card, but I really like the monochromatic color scheme.
