School's Out For Summer!!!

Yesterday concluded 2009 for me - I attended the graduation ceremonies for the class of 2009 and then a get-together for the faculty who survived the year! I wished all of my seniors the best with the card you'll see below, and I'm about to start working on a money holder for a graduation party I'm going to later today. Along with a personal note, the card's inside reads: Hoot-n-Holler. You're a Scholar! I've always loved that saying after seeing Kim Hughes' U R a Hoot set and couldn't wait to pull this card together after getting my Hero Arts Big Owl set.

Details:
Stamps - Big Owl (Hero Arts)
Paper - Real Red, Basic Black, white, yellow, DP (DCWV Grade School & Corkboard)
Ink - Stazon; Brushables markers (Zig) & Blender
Accessories - Cricut (graduation caps), brads, ribbon

Stampin Out Alzheimers

There's a fabulous event going on at Paper Craft Planet raising funds for Alzheimer's Disease - Stampin Out Alzheimer's. Jen Tapler is hosting this event to honor her father (read the touching story here) - 100% of the proceeds go to the American Alzheimer Association. For a minimum donation of $5, you'll support a great cause and get a ton of freebies, contests, and challenges available to you. The event is going on for a week (until Sunday, May 31st), so be sure to check it out!!

The first event I participated in was creating a digi scrapbook page (GASP!!!). I'm not a big fan of scrapbooking. I made one for my mom last year - it took forever. Maybe I'd feel differently if I had kids, but who knows?!? I wanted to give the whole digi-scrapping a try, and there's a free kit (Flip Flop Tan) by Libby Weifenbach over at SOA to download and use in a challenge.

I had such fun with this!!! I think I may try the digi-scrapping again in the future. I had this photo of me & my grandma on my computer from when I was creating my mom's scrapbook. I love how the bright colors of the kit fit so well with our late 70's fashion!

MIA

Hi all!!

Sorry that I haven't been posting. I spent all of last week writing GIEPs (Gifted Individualized Education Programs) and meeting with parents, and I was EXHAUSTED!!! Then I left for Penn State with students on Sunday for a science competition, got back today (Tuesday), and I'm leaving in a few hours for Dickinson College (with students again) for the state computer fair. Can't wait to get back to stamping!!

Mother's Day Altered Paint Can

To go along with her flower pot card, I created this altered paint can containing mani/pedi tools for my mom. I was planning another color scheme and purchased pink & green shredded paper. After looking at it for awhile, I wanted the paint can to coordinate with the card. I didn't have time to run to the store and pick up red or white (I doubt they'd have peach or minty green) shredded paper, so I had to substitute with tissue paper. My mom didn't mind at all...she loved it! Especially the extra large orange stick that I tucked inside. My mom loved mine when she was over a few months ago.

This was my first altered paint can. I'm happy with it, but that lid was tricky!!!! I wanted to top it with a scallop circle, but my Cricut only cuts up to 5 1/2 inches. This lid needed at least a 6 inch topper. After playing around with different options, I was happy with how it turned out.

Details
Paper - DP, white, Groovy Guava, Real Red
Ink - Groovy Guava
Stamps - inque boutique (polka dots on lid)
Accessories - Cricut (Georges & Basic Shapes; Alphalicious), ribbons, buttons, Fiskars Treading Water border punch

Happy Mother's Day

Weeks ago, I fell in love with the flower pot cards Elizabeth created - check them out here. Instantly I knew that I wanted to create one for my mom for mothers day. You can find the tutorial on Stephanie's blog.

I love the colors! I found the polka dot DP that Real Red and Groovy Guava went perfectly.I used the Georges Basic Shapes Cricut cartridge to cut out the posies and I hand cut the leaves from some green paper I picked up at Archivers. Chocolate Chip was used for the pot, which I stamped with my Hero Arts raindrop background stamp. The Stampendous sentiment was colored with (my new ) Copics!

I still can't get over how quick and easy the card was to make. I think it's so versatile...get well, new baby, congratulations, thinking of you, blah, blah, blah...so I know I'll be making more!

Details
Stamps - Hero Arts Raindrop background, Stampendous Cling Best Mom
Ink - Chocolate Chip; Copics - Jade Green(G00), Light Orange(YR02), Lipstick Red(R29)
Paper - Real Red, Groovy Guave, Archivers light green, DP
Accessories - Cricut (Georges Basic Shapes cartridge), grosgrain ribbon, buttons, scallop edge punch

A Sketch Challenge

So tomorrow's the start of the big attic insulation fest...ugh!! We need to enlarge the opening - it's only about 30" x 8" now. Stamping sounds so much more fun.

Here's my card for this week's sketch challenge over at SCS. I really liked the sketch, but I think I got started too late in the day because I'm not too happy with how it turned out - too much white. I wanted to incorporate the graph paper dp from DCWV, but it didn't go the way I wanted. Oh well, there's always next time :)

Details
Stamps - inque boutique (Out of this World)
Ink - black
Paper - Real Red, Basic Black, DCWV Grade School (graph paper)
Accessories - brads, EK Success border punch (lines & dots), corner rounder

Mojo Monday

May is my least favorite month of the year :( - I'm so busy at school and I end up bringing a lot of work home. Even though I have about 20 days of school left, I will only be teaching 6 more days because of meetings, competitions, field trips, programs, etc. It's frustrating because I really like being in the classroom with my students.

After a trip to Lowe's tonight to price out insulation (yep, I'm tackling the attic soon!!), I set out to combine school work and my take on this week's Mojo Monday sketch. I just picked up this little robot guy at Pat Catan's on Sunday, and I couldn't wait to use him. Isn't he the cutest?! I think he's absolutely perfect for boy cards :) This week's Mojo Monday challenge will be awarding up to 7 prizes (your choice of a Verve Stamps set). Be sure to check it out!!
